Have a look at this creche / montessori school which we completed a few weeks ago.
As you can see the area immediately outside the back door and patio door was totally unsafe as a surface for children to play on and the concrete steps down into the garden were an accident waiting to happen. The owner asked us to come in and create an enclosed safe play area.
We built up the levels to get rid of the steps and widen the immediate play area outside the doors and installed a small picket type fence to create an enclosed and most of all safe area for the children to play in. We used treated timber sleepers to create new safer steps down into the main garden area.
All in all it is now a much safer and cleaner area for the children to play on.
